On January 27th, 2012, Sandbox, Ford Models, Sweden Unlimited and Arizona Tea will bring together a group of remarkably talented, up-and-coming designers, including Man Vs. Machine and Karolina Zmarlak, in a runway show to benefit Fashion Delivers. The show is followed by a cocktail party and luxury silent auction which features merchandise from designer brands such as David Yurman, Tory Burch, Elie Tahari, Theory, Kenneth Cole, Coach, Milly, and many others. Proceeds from this charity event will benefit the Fashion Delivers Charitable Foundation, a non-profit organization that mobilizes the fashion community to reach out and provide relief and dignity to survivors of natural disasters and others in need.

Sandbox is teaming up with Ford, Sweden Unlimited, and Arizona Tea to sponsor this highly anticipated winter fundraiser. The event has received an outpouring of support from key industry players. “The response has been fantastic,” said Jessica Ralston, Event Manager for Sandbox Studio, “It’s awesome to see so many people from different ends of the fashion community come together for such a great cause. All of the partners working on this event have been so amazing – it’s definitely going to be one of our most memorable evenings of 2012.”

The January 27th event will be produced by Sandbox at 250 Hudson Street, where attendees – including top retail and design executives, industry insiders and young, socially-minded fashion professionals – will join the board members of Fashion Delivers to raise both awareness and money for communities that are very much in need.

As I unpacked boxes of Missoni for Target merchandise and hung the pieces on our steel rolling racks in Studio 2, I couldn’t help but smile. I was about to be a part of the biggest designer collaboration to hit stores yet. Each piece of clothing that emerged from the box seemed to trump the one before it. The colors, the materials, the diversity in the collection; I easily had my next three paychecks spent.

The excitement spread throughout the studio like wildfire as photographers, stylists, and producers caught glimpses of the unique 400 item collection which Missoni, an Italian luxury brand known for their colors, patterns, and knitwear, worked with Target for over a year to create. We instantly knew this collection was not just going to be a success, but rather a phenomenon raved about for years to come.

Day 1 of the 5 day Fashion shoot at Sandbox seemed to start as normal, with fresh fruit and freshly brewed coffee for breakfast, although the energy on set was noticeably more vibrant; each crew member floating just a bit lighter among the sea of vivacious colors and patterns. Shirley Bassey’s, Where do I begin? whirled through the studio’s sound system as Photographer Scott McKay snapped images of model Olga Boiko, from DNA. Olga’s natural beauty and fluid movements captured the essence of Missoni for Target, which was launched Tuesday, September 13th and was an instant success.

Judging by the number of “out of stocks” featured on the website, endless lines in stores, and over 25,000 items now being sold on eBay and Craigslist well over retail price, I think it is safe to say Missoni for Target was an industry milestone and Sandbox is honored to have been a part of it.
